What every lift aperture pack includes
Fitting a through-floor lift means cutting an opening in the first-floor structure. Building Control need calculations proving the altered floor still carries its loads safely — this pack is exactly that.
Trimming design for the opening
New trimmers and doubled trimmed-joist checks around the aperture, sized for the loads they now carry — with clear output to form the opening from.
Lift load calculations
Your lift’s point loads, taken from the manufacturer’s loading data and applied to the altered structure — so the design reflects the actual lift going in.
Full load-path check
Joist size, spacing, direction and span assessed at the aperture position, and floor loads re-routed safely around the new opening.
Building-Control-ready report
A calculation pack prepared specifically to satisfy Building Control — and if they ask for any clarification, we handle it at no extra cost.

Talk to us about a trade accountFrequently asked questions
Everything homeowners, builders and lift installers usually ask us.
Do I need structural calculations for a through-floor lift?
In most cases, yes. Fitting a through-floor lift means cutting an aperture in the first-floor structure, and Building Control need evidence that the altered floor still carries its loads safely. Our calculations provide exactly that, ready for sign-off.
What is a lift aperture?
It’s the opening formed in the floor between two rooms — typically a lounge and the bedroom above — that the lift travels through. Forming it means cutting one or more floor joists, so the opening must be “trimmed”: new timbers designed to carry the interrupted loads around the hole.
Will the calculations pass Building Control?
Yes — we have a 100% Building Control approval rate across 9,000+ projects, and our reports are prepared specifically for Building Control. If they request any clarification, we handle it free of charge.
Do you need to visit my property?
No. We work remotely from your lift’s loading documentation and your floor details — a builder’s site survey or your own measurements and photos are all we need. That keeps the cost and your timeline down.
What if my floor is concrete, or extra structural work is needed?
The fixed price covers apertures in standard timber floors — the usual case for through-floor lifts. Concrete floors, or installations needing foundations or other structural elements, need a bespoke assessment: our engineers will be in touch, or contact us first and we’ll quote it individually.
What exactly do you need from me?
Your postcode, the lift make and model (or the manufacturer’s loading documentation), the aperture size and position, and your joist details — size, spacing and direction. A builder’s site survey covers all of it, and photos of the rooms help.
How much does it cost and how quickly will I get it?
£200 + VAT (£240 inc VAT), delivered in 2 working days. One price and one turnaround for every lift aperture, with no site visit needed.
I’m a lift manufacturer or installer — can we set up a regular arrangement?
Yes — we already work with the UK’s leading through-floor lift companies, producing calculations at volume at the same fixed price per install. Get in touch and we’ll set up a direct route for your team.
